If you came to this site looking for some sort of super man your in the wrong place. I am just a regular person who dreamed and pushed for years to be strong.
I graduated high school at 120 pounds. The next morning I had a bad accident and spent 43 days in traction and had to learn to walk again.
After a year off I went to school at the University of South Florida. That was the place I really found my love of steel. It became a life long affair. I still love the steel today. It has been now 32 years.
I competed at USF in the bodybuilding show they had on campus. I read and took in everything available to learn and grow.
By 1985 I had moved back home to Hollywood, Florida and won the heavyweight Mr. Hollywood.
It was not long after that I moved into powerlifting. I set the state record in the deadlift and won the drug free nationals and best lifter in the heavy classes in 1995.
In 1995 I had moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was the powerlifter of the year for Alabama.
In 2000 I found the Highland Games. I saw them on TV and then met a person at the gym, Petur Gundmonson who competed in them. He began to train me and I found the games a great competition. They offer an athletic component and you have to be strong. The people in the games are great, the athletes help each other and I have made tremendous friends.
In 2003 I won the East Coast Championship. This was the largest game in our part of the United States. It was special as my good friend Craig Smith won the pro class. We started throwing with each other and it was a great win for us both.
I now have over 40 wins and have been on the North South Team 6 times and captain 3 times.
In 2007 and 2008 I won the masters Worlds. I also held 3 world records at the time. An injury this year forced me to miss the worlds, but the book is not complete. There are more competitions to be won and enjoyed. After all this time I am still hungry we shall see what is next. Yours in Steel, Myles
